Renowned Turkish stars from the historical drama series Dirilis: Ertugrul Nurettin Sönmez aka Bamsı Beyrek and Ayberk Pekcan aka Artuk Bey have arrived in Pakistan with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. The trio is on a three-day visit, local media reported.
The historic Turkish blockbuster is very popular in Pakistan. It earned heroic status after Pakistan Television (PTV) telecast a version dubbed in Urdu. As the show is based on the life and times of the 13th-century, it took the nation by storm.
Pakistanis have not only loved the storyline but they are also obsessed with the cast. Within days of the first telecast, the fan following for the series and its actors surged. Owing to their outstanding performances, many Turkish actors from this show became a household name in Pakistan.
Sönmez, 43, gained massive popularity with the character of Bamsı Beyrek in Diriliş: Ertuğrul and its sequel Kuruluş: Osman. On the other hand, Pekcan is the Turkish actor who essayed the role of Artuk Bey in the historical drama series.
Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu along with a 20-member delegation arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday. In addition to this, the media outlets citing sources reported that the actors Sönmez and Pekcan are part of the 20-member Turkish delegation.
Meanwhile, President Dr. Arif Alvi has also conferred Hilal-e-Pakistan on Turkish Foreign Minister in recognition of his services for international peace. As well as for security and further strengthening of Pakistan-Turkey bilateral relationship.
The investiture ceremony was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Wednesday. Moreover, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz also attended it.
Discussion on regional & global issues
According to Foreign Office, FM Cavusoglu along with his delegation also held a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Qureshi. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the bilateral relations besides exchanging views on regional and international issues.
The two foreign ministers expressed concerns over the rising trend of Islamophobia and stressed joint efforts to protect Islamic values.
Soon, the Turkish minister will also hold meetings with top leaders including Prime Minister Imran Khan where issues of mutual interest, including bilateral cooperation, will be discussed in detail. This is the third visit of the Turkish FM to Pakistan in the last two and a half years.
Last month in December 2020, the leading actor of a popular Turkish TV series, Engin Altan Duzyatan arrived in Pakistan. Fans were delighted with the actor’s arrival and warmly greeted him.
